Tshwane coronavirus weekly infections continue to plummet
This week, active infections in the region dropped to 532 from 781 infections the previous week, representing a drop of 249 infections.

Last week, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported that South Africa officially exited the so-called third wave of Covid-19 infections as provinces across the country recorded low daily infections.
The sustained drop across the country continues to be mirrored in the Tshwane metro region.
This week, active infections in the region dropped to 532 from 781 infections the previous week, representing a drop of 249 infections.
However, compared to other regions in the province, Tshwane had the highest active infections followed by Johannesburg.
As of September 30, there were 1 192 people hospitalised due to Covid-19 in the region. About 1 084 982 people have been vaccinated thus far, which makes Tshwane the second-highest region with vaccinated people in the province.
Commenting on the drop in cases, Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said although the numbers were encouraging, he urged the public not to let their guard down.
“Residents are again reminded to be vigilant and to adhere to all Covid-19 safety protocols. It is also worth noting that the Presidency has placed the country on Adjusted Alert Level 1 since October 1,” he said.

“Now, it is important that we also play our part by vaccinating to ensure that we don’t move back to stricter levels of lockdown. The City of Tshwane has 52 public vaccination sites ready to assist all eligible residents.”
Meanwhile, the metro has also continued with its Covid-19 community-based testing programme. This week’s campaign will be held at Makro Silver Lakes on the corner of Solomon Mahlangu Drive and Bendeman Boulevard, on October 6 and 7. The testing mobile unit opens from 09:30.
