Local cricketer talks about mini-cricket open door for youngsters
KFC Mini-Cricket programme has given all involved a renewed sense of hope for South Africa’s young cricket fanatics.
Local cricketer Maria Msiza talks about how the KFC Mini-Cricket programme has played a huge role in opening doors for young cricketers.
Speaking at the KFC Mini-Cricket provincial seminar, the Titans player applauded the coaches for scouting and developing players around the country.
She was joined by Proteas u.19 and Titans junior player Dewald Brevis and Kathrine Prior of the Titans.
“KFC Mini-Cricket has played a huge role because that’s where everything started and that’s where the foundation of cricket begins. The programme opens doors for you as a youngster growing up,” she said.
Msiza emphasised that the mini-cricket program involved both boys and girls.
“I feel like it’s important for girls to be involved in such activities because as we grow up, we tend to fall for things that are bad for us which will lead us to make bad decisions.
“So being part of any sports activity is very amazing because you get to explore and see the world from a different perspective and discover great things about yourself,” she said.
The overarching theme of this year’s KFC Mini-Cricket festival is “Imvuselelo” or “Recovery” as South Africa continues to recover and rebuild from the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The programme has given all involved a renewed sense of hope for South Africa’s young cricket fanatics ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The 2021/22 season is a milestone one as KFC enters its 12th year as sponsor and partner of Cricket South Africa for the KFC Mini-Cricket programme while the theme continues as KFC celebrates its 50th year in South Africa.
“This year is a momentous occasion for us as we turn 50 in South Africa. That’s 50 years of spreading finger lickin’ goodness.
“There is no better way to celebrate our milestone than by recognising our phenomenal volunteer coaches and coordinators,” said KFC CSI Manager Andra Ferreira Nel.
“These inspiring individuals epitomise all that is great about South Africa. Their selfless dedication allows the programme to be all-inclusive and teach the kids important life skills while they get active in a fun and healthy way by playing a sport that they love.
“They champion the spirit of community by keeping the mini-cricket flame alive in their corners of our country and we could not be prouder to partner with them for the coming season,” Nel said.
