Women meet to discuss social issues
The campaign was held for two days in Nellmapius, extension 4 under the theme “mother’s tears plus healing”.
Mamelodi and Nellmapius women who suffered abuse at the hands of men were encouraged to take charge of their lives during a two-day Women Let’s Talk campaign in Nellmapius.
The campaign was held in Nellmapius extension 4 under the theme “mother’s tears plus healing” on October 16.
The event was attended by women from across Mamelodi and Nellmapius as well as social workers.
Here they discussed social issues and what they are going through daily.

Organiser Pinkie Madiba said she decided to hold the event because she comes from an abusive marriage and was once rejected by her children, which affected her mental health.
“When I saw what was going on in my community, I realised that I didn’t want to see other women suffer the same fate as I did,” she said.
The campaign discussed social issues and the challenges women have to go through every day.
Attendees gave each other advice. As part of the healing process, they also prayed for each other.
“I am happy to see so many people here,” said Madiba.
The women also discussed issues such as alcohol, marriages, drugs, rape and gender-based violence.
“The event was all about supporting each other instead of gossiping behind people’s backs about their problems.”

Madiba said she went through a lot in life but her belief in God helped her to get her children back.
Pastor Thabiso Machabaphahla, of the Restoration of God’s Glory Ministry, encouraged the women to take charge of their lives.
“The abusive relationship ends now for women. They should not let people’s opinions let them down. Victory is theirs,” said the pastor.
He advised women to put their trust in God and believe in Him.
Social worker Mmule Mokaba said she was at the event to support the women and help them heal.
“Healing is part of the process,” said Mmule.
Maria Mothombenina said the campaign was very helpful and she was touched by the stories of the women and how they have survived.
The campaign is an ongoing program and plans are to host it twice a year to reach more women in various communities.
