Hundreds visit Boeremark on Saturday
"We mainly have fresh vegetables, fresh meat, fresh cheese, fresh honey and we have a lot of people coming here to do their weekly grocery shopping."
Hundreds of people visited the Boeremark in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Boeremark creates a facility where people can sell their agricultural and hand-made products.

Market manager at Boeremark Christiaan Dirk van Reenen said the market started in the early hours of the morning which is an advantage for them and the visitors.

“The market runs at 05:30 until 09:30 every Saturday. The visitors can have breakfast and still have the whole Saturday to themselves.”

Van Reenen said the market is about creating a platform for small farmers in the area, even those from far away to have the ability to sell their stuff.
“It¹s not only that, we try to cater for a good experience for our visitors. We have stuff that people have made themselves or produced themselves.

Van Reenen said they are excited that next year, October, will be their 30th anniversary since the market’s inception.
“We have been operating for 29 years and next year this time, it will be 30 years since the market started.

“It all started way back opposite CSIR, it was there for a few years. It moved to the Pioneers Museum and now we are on this property. We have been growing ever since.”
He said buying the property made it possible for the stall holders to put permanent structures and make it easy for themselves to sell their products.

Van Reenen said they are glad to say that despite the lockdown and Covid-19 regulation, it didn’t affect the market too much.

“We managed to keep the market open, although in July during level 4, we had less visitors, we have been blessed with being able to carry on with business.”
