Eduplex hosted a 24-hour mountain biking event at the Eduplex Sports Complex in Queenswood over the weekend.
This event has been on the table for some time now, largely due to Covid and lockdown regulations.
The 1 440 race (there are 1 440 minutes in 24 hours), was run to achieve several objectives including showcasing the Eduplex’ sporting facilities, routes to the race and showing off the world-class private educational facilities available in the Moot.
Riders in this event encountered at least five different surfaces through several environments.
The biking event also catered for those who did a six-hour race.
Both events started on Saturday morning at 08:00.
While the six-hour race concluded at 14:00, the 24-hour race ran on 24:00 when the race was suspended until 04:00, to comply with curfew regulations. It finally drew to a close on Sunday noon.
The mountain biking event allowed entrants to camp on the cricket field.
“The riding was superb and attracted a great mix of well-known cycling personalities, as well as a good number of weekend warriors and newbies alike.
“The venue really played its part with the superbly equipped facilities ensuring a clean, spacious and visually stunning environment for both riders and visitors to the event. While the jump track was closed to the public for the duration of the event as it was on the route, the pump track was open and attracted a large number of visitors and families,” Eduplex said.

It was truly a festival of cycling and was amazing to see riders of all ages and abilities on their bikes for an entire weekend, enjoying the amazing weather and probably one of the best outdoor sports facilities in Pretoria.
“With music creating a great race vibe, and the smell of good food drifting throughout the whole zone, our sponsors and exhibitors were also able to interact with entrants and visitors alike about their goods and services on offer. In addition, a dedicated technical support zone was in place, ensuring that any unforeseen mechanical problems were taken care of quickly, efficiently and professionally.”
Several schools participated in the relay events on offer including the host school, Eduplex, Pretoria Boys High School and St Stithians from Johannesburg.
