Rietgat cops bust 60 over weekend

"Ten of them were arrested for drinking and driving."

Rietgat police arrested 60 people on various criminal charges over the weekend – 10 of them on drunk driving charges.

The rest of the charges include intent to inflict grievous bodily harm (GBH); common assault, armed robbery; dealing in drugs; possession of an unlicensed firearm; murder and kidnapping; possession of drugs; rape; fraud; malicious damage to property; shoplifting and intimidation among others, according to Rietgat police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

Rietgat police station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto commended the police for their efforts.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to the officers who continue to serve with pride and integrity. I also would like to express my gratitude to the community without which we cannot win the battle against crime,” Maphoto said.

Maluleka said all arrested suspects will appear before the Soshanguve magistrate’s court in due course.
