Tavern owner arrested for running business without licence

Crates of beer were confiscated.

Laudium police have arrested a 37-year-old tavern owner for selling alcohol without a licence recently.

The arrest came through multiple discipline operations which included visibility patrol and stop-and-searches.

“The suspect was found selling liquor without a licence at his tavern in Itereleng,” said Laudium police spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe.

“The outlet was closed down and all the liquor was confiscated.”

Chokoe said the man was immediately arrested and taken to the Laudium police station.

He said more operations would be held around Laudium shopping centre, the Itireleng informal settlement and the community at large to prevent crimes like hijacking, robberies and assault.

Laudium station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Margaret Nkwane applauded members for their continuous hard work.

Last week, police seized over 20 crates of beer from illegal outlets in the north of Pretoria during an operation.

The operation formed part of a war against the illegal trade of alcohol and second-hand goods around the Rietgat policing precinct.
