The cash van was bombed and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Two guards were shot and wounded during a CIT robbery on the N1, north of Pretoria on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said the cash van was making its way from Pretoria to Marble Hall in Limpopo when it was attacked around 10:00.
“Information at hand is that the cash van was bombed and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
“At this stage, we can confirm that two security officials have been shot and wounded and rushed to a nearby medical facility for medical care,” she said.
Mathe said the escort vehicle was also shot at.
“All roleplayers are on scene and a manhunt has ensued for those responsible for this brazen attack.”
Just after 15:00, Mather said part of the N1 North has still closed about 3km from the Murrayhill off-ramp following a CIT heist.
According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, a cash van was apparently ambushed. “According to members of the public on scene, the vehicle was rammed, resulting in a rollover,” he said.
