Ga-Rankuwa husband arrested for allegedly beating wife to death

"Police were called by the suspect who alleged that he found his wife robbed and murdered in their house."

Police arrested a 56-year-old man after he allegedly beaten his wife to death with a blunt object on Tuesday evening in Ga-Rankuwa, zone 5.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said police were called by the man who claimed he found his wife robbed and murdered in their house.

“Police proceeded to the scene and called the paramedics who certified that the woman sustained head injuries and died.”

He added that they suspected a blunt object was used to beat her.

Masondo said a preliminary investigation was conducted and led to the arrest of the husband.

Residents at the scene said the husband held his children hostage after he had allegedly killed his wife.

However, police have not confirmed if these allegation were true.

Masondo said police found the daughter in the house and they will obtain a statement from her.

“For now, we cannot confirm if she was held against her will inside the house.”

He said the man is expected to appear in Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court on Friday.
