Two arrested in drug operation in Bronkhorstspruit

Police launched an investigation after receiving information about drug dealers in the Bronkhorstspruit CBD.

Two men were arrested on Tuesday for dealing drugs in Bronkhorstspruit.

Police spokesperson Constable Munyadziwa Ramovha said police set up an operation after receiving a tip-off from an awaiting trialist about drug dealers in the CBD.

She said the operation started on January 16 when police observed the movement of men suspected to be dealers.

“It was clear that the two suspects had an operation going between the two of them,” she said.

“Always when they met there was an exchange happening.”

On Tuesday, January 18, at about 06:30, police investigated a house break-in and theft which was reported early this year.

This case led police to one of the suspect’s residences where he was found in possession of 48 packets of drugs, believed to be an estimated R2 000 in cash.

Ramovha said the suspect was also found in possession of a Samsung black plasma TV which was suspected to be linked with the housebreaking and theft case.

“The suspect indicated that he is not alone and pointed out his ‘spaceman’ who was operating at a shop on corner Church and Lanham streets,” she said.

“The police went to the above-mentioned place. Upon arrival, they found the suspect locking himself in a small room. He was searched and found to be in possession of 38 packets of nyaope.

“The two suspects confirmed that they were dealing in drugs together.”

They were arrested for possession of drugs, dealing in drugs and possession of suspected stolen property.

Detective Sergeant Johannes Mokoena, Sergeant Senzo Ntuli and Constable Daryll Smith were applauded for the successful arrests of two suspects.

Perpetrators of crimes must expect war as we will not negotiate crime and no stone will be left unturned.

“This successful arrest and seizure is a huge leap in the direction of rooting out drugs in Bronkhorstspruit,” Ramovha said.

“It is imperative that community members report suspicious and criminal activities in their area to the police on 013 932 9222.”

The pair were expected to appear in court soon.
