Parts of west of Pretoria without water

“Following extensive investigations by the technical team, it was found that there is an obstruction between the reservoir and the downstream bulk water meter as the meter was not running.”

Parts of the west of Pretoria are without water following technical issues at a local reservoir.

The areas which are being affected include Proclamation Hill, West Park, Pretoria West Industrial and Kwaggasrand, according to a statement by the metro.

“These areas are supplied water through the Iscor reservoir and unfortunately over the past week the Iscor reservoir has experienced various technical challenges,” the metro said in a statement.

“The reservoir had initially run dry following infrastructure maintenance and upgrade work that was carried out by the metro at the Heights reservoir.

The Heights reservoir feeds the Iscor reservoir.

“The Iscor reservoir struggled to recover after completion of the maintenance work.”

After investigations, it was discovered that there was an obstruction at the reservoir inlet that blocked water from flowing into the reservoir.

“The obstruction was removed, and the problem resolved,” the metro said.

“Yesterday (Thursday), it was discovered that there was no flow from the reservoir to the supply areas while the reservoir level was rising, and the reservoir was showing good signs of recovery.

“Following extensive investigations by the technical team, it was found that there is an obstruction between the reservoir and the downstream bulk water meter as the meter was not running.”

The metro’s team started with the maintenance work that included scouring the system, stripping the meter to clear the blockage and cleaning the reservoir.

The process would, according to the metro, be carried out on Friday.

“During this period the city has arranged roaming water tankers to the affected areas.

“An update will be provided later today on the progress of the maintenance work and the estimated time of completion.”

The metro apologised for the inconvenience caused as a result of the water interruption.
