Through one of Maragon Olympus’ passion projects, the Economic and Management Sciences Entrepreneurship project, grade 7 learners sold ice creams and donated the profit from all the groups to the South African Foundation for the Conversation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB).

SANCCOB is a registered non-profit organisation based in Blouberg, Cape Town, and provides a rehabilitation programme for sick, injured seabirds and abandoned chicks and is recognised internationally as a leader in the rehabilitation of seabirds.

The money donated to SANCCOB was used to adopt and name six penguins; as well as to take care of Princess, a permanent penguin at the centre, according to a statement by the school.

“Donations were also used for the adoption of an egg that will be hatched, hand-reared and cared for until it is ready to be released into the wild. “This money will go towards the rehabilitation and care of the birds, including medicine and food, while they are at the centre.

“To the Maragon Olympus grade 7 class of 2021 – thank you for making a difference in saving these amazing animals!”
