Dinaledi FC suffer a semi-final defeat

Mamelodi Sundowns’ stars Ricardo Goss, Gaston Sirino, Kermit Erasmus and Gift Motupa started for Dinaledi FC in the inaugural DStv Compact Cup.

Local club Dinaledi FC suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Coastal United at the Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ stars Ricardo Goss, Gaston Sirino, Kermit Erasmus and Gift Motupa started for Dinaledi FC in the inaugural DStv Compact Cup.

Despite their loss, Dinaledi came out guns blazing minutes from half-time with shots from Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo of Marumo Gallants and Motupa, only for Sirino to see his penalty-kick saved by the opposition.

The inland representatives had a formidable line-up though could not create clear chances. A couple of changes were made, Lesedi Kapinga came on, while Sirino and Motupa made their way off the pitch.

Dinaledi FC will play for third and fourth position in the second round of the competition in Johannesburg against Amabutho FC, who lost to the Warriors in the second fixture of the viewer’s choice.

Gift Motupa thanked supporters for voting.

“Firstly, I would love to thank the supporters for voting for us. It will be very interesting to be in this Cup, I am looking forward to seeing the other players and trying new combinations on the play field.”

Motupa expressed his thoughts about his selection in the tournament. He also mentioned the benefits of participating in the viewer’s choice competition and what his goals are:

“It will be good for match fitness, I am looking forward to scoring goals and winning the trophy.”
