Die Hoërskool Wonderboom learner encourages class of 2022 to work hard

Wonderboom’s top academic learner is Armandt Erasmus got six distinctions with an average of 86%.

Schools in the Moot and North of Pretoria were delighted by the pass rate and achievements their matric learners received.

The matric class of Die Hoërskool Wonderboom of 2021, achieved a total of 138 distinctions with a pass rate of 97%.

Their total average is 74.1% for learners with university admission, the school said.

Wonderboom’s top academic learner Armandt Erasmus got six distinctions with an average of 86%.

Erasmus got honors for academics as well as leadership and walked away with trophies for Maths, English, Economics and Physical Sciences.

Speaking to Rekord, Erasmus said he felt confident before the start of his final matric exams.

“I felt ready and prepared mostly for Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Economics. The only issue I had was with Afrikaans because it can be difficult, especially if it is the home language,” he said.

Throughout the year, Erasmus was the top performer in the school but says he wasn’t sure if he would be on top after matric final results.

“Yes, one can never be sure, I just wanted to do well and make myself proud and when they announced that I was a top-achieving learner at the school, I was thrilled.”

He’s planning to do a double major in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Pretoria this year.

He said matriculants should find joy in studying their favourite subjects.

“As a former matriculant at Die Hoërskool Wonderboom, I would love to encourage the class of 2022 to study hard and enjoy their studies. It is very important to study what you love,” he said.

“If you are a top performer, always stay there, don’t let anything distrust you,” Erasmus said.

Here are his results: Afrikaans: 80%, English: 93%, Maths: 86%, Life Orientation: 95%, Economics: 82%, Life Sciences: 78% and Physical sciences: 91%.

Another top-performing school in the north was Hoërskool Montana.

The class of 2021 which had 280 learners, achieved a pass rate of 99.6% and a class average of 65.6%.

A total of 249 learners pass with university exemption (88.92), the highest in the school’s history.

About 8.92% of the group passed with diploma exemption.

Megan Mader was the top performer, with an average of 92.7% and seven distinctions.
