Man from Mountain View in critical condition after flung from car

"My brother has medical insurance which only covers a small amount. Thereafter we are liable for the procedures needed, but he is still in a coma on a ventilator in ICU currently."

A 24-year-old man from Mountain View was still in critical condition in hospital after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Moot Street in the west of Pretoria on Sunday, January 23 at around 04:30.

Wian Erasmus was immediately rushed to Life Eugene Marais hospital after he was flung from a Nissan Micra.

According to his sister, Lilly Booyjens, he was a passenger in the car. His body was found metres from where the vehicle had crashed.

“His fiancée and one of their friends’ vehicles rolled off the bridge in Moot Street. They are both in a stable condition in Steve Biko hospital.

“The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unknown at this stage,” she said.

Booyjens said her brother’s liver had a hole in it that was caused by his pelvis that broke, which the doctors operated on.

“His lungs collapsed and he still has drains in both lungs.

“Wian has a broken pelvis which they could only partially repair because his vitals were unstable and they had to resuscitate my brother on the operation table.

“His bladder was cut, which they could repair. His shoulder is broken and the doctors could not yet perform a CT scan on his brain, as he is too unstable to be moved at the moment. He has received numerous blood transfusions already,” Booyjens said.

The family are in desperate need of financial help.

“I am requesting any assistance.

“My brother has medical insurance which only covers a small amount. Thereafter we are liable for the procedures needed, but he is still in a coma on a ventilator in ICU currently.

“His vitals are still up and down and his blood pressure is still low,” she said.

She added that her brother had to start with dialysis.

“We believe and trust in the Lord for Wian’s full recovery.
