Post Office launches online licensing renewal services
This service would supplement renewal services that were available from selected Post Office branches, but customers would still be able to walk in and renew their vehicle licenses at those branches.

The SA Post Office (Sapo) announced that it had launched online licensing renewal services this week.
These services were for the renewal of motor vehicle licences and were accessible from any electronic mobile device.
“The full process, including payment, will be done online – leaving only the step of accessing the actual disc,” post office spokesperson Johan Kruger said.
He said accessing the disc would be done in one of two ways – the post office could either deliver it to the customer at an additional R75 delivery fee or collect it for free from a post office counter.
The payment would be made safely and securely through the Masterpass App, available for download from both the Google and Apple Play stores.
Kruger said that no commission was charged on the renewal transaction.
“The customer will receive an SMS when the disc arrives at the destination post office for collection or when it goes out for delivery,” he said.
Kruger said that the turnaround time was three working days, but could be up to five working days for outlying areas.
“The online application for the renewal of motor vehicle licences is the first step to turn the ‘Sapo in my pocket’ strategy into reality and will enable the customer to complete the entire process in the comfort of their own homes or offices,” he said.
This newly launched service was available to vehicle owners in all of the provinces in the country, except the Western Cape.
“The SA Post Office is working to extend the service to this province as well,” Kruger said, adding that this service would supplement renewal services that were available from selected post office branches, and customers would still be able to walk in and renew their vehicle licences at those branches.
“Customers who renew a vehicle licence at a post office branch receive the new disc immediately and the online renewal process is also quick and simple once the once-off registration process is completed,” he said.
“The post office has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that customer data is secure,” he said.
Kruger also said that they also offered bulk motor vehicle licence renewals for fleet operators and businesses, big and small.
“This service entails the collection of all necessary documentation from company premises, taking them back to the post office for processing, the printing of the discs, and delivery back to the offices of the customer,” he said.
The new online service could be accessed by visiting www.sapomvl.co.za while enquiries related to the motor vehicle licensing or other postal services could be forwarded to Sapo the sending an SMS to 31133 or by sending an email to customer.service@postoffice.co.za.
