The programme called Adopt-a-Cop has been running the past years and has proven to be a success, seeing a decline in bad behavioural patterns between learners, said Pretoria Central police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

“Monday’s awareness campaign was aimed at addressing lawlessness and to ensure drug-free school premises.”

He said police engaged with educators not only to seek out problems but also to find solutions to ensure that both the Department of Basic Education and SAPS can maintain law and order.

“No major incidents have been reported since the schools reopened in the city centre. This will be a continuous effort by members to maintain the standard all year,” Nkhumise said.

The community is urged to assist and report any form of crime and the following numbers can be utilised: 112 or contact crime hotline 08600 10111.
