Air force celebrates 102nd birthday with aircraft displays, fireworks

"There will be a fly pass by helicopters, as well as a Hawk display, around 18:45. The fireworks display will probably not be any longer than about five minutes."

The South African Air Force (SAAF) has notified residents of low flying aircrafts and a fireworks display on Thursday evening.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Antheolene Smith the SAAF would be hosting its annual Prestige Evening on Thursday evening as part of its 102nd birthday celebrations.

“The event will be hosted at Waterkloof Air Force Base and residents can expect that low flying aircrafts will be active in the area.

“There will be a fly-past by helicopters, as well as a Hawk display, around 18:45. The fireworks display will probably not be any longer than about five minutes,” she said.

“We have invited approximately 450 high-ranking members of the air force, as well as the defence force,” she said.

Smith said the SAAF had a new vision, mission, and slogan, that would be revealed to internal members.

“The following day, Friday, it will be revealed to the public at Zwartkops Air Force Base,” she said.
