Another body recovered in Centurion

At least four people have drowned during floods that wreaked havoc in most parts of Pretoria following heavy rains on Friday and Saturday.

The body of a man, believed to be the driver of an Audi SUV that got stuck near the Centurion Lake Hotel, was found on Tuesday morning.

The driver went missing on Friday evening after he tried to cross the Hennops River.

His vehicle was found the next morning near the hotel, but no one was inside.

On Tuesday afternoon, Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the police rescue divers recovered the driver’s body after he was washed away by the floods over the weekend.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller confirmed that the body was found in the river between Lenchen Avenue and Hendrik Verwoerd Drive, but could not provide more details.

A Centurion man who went missing between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday, while on his way home, drowned.

The man’s body was retrieved by the diving unit after his car dipped in the Hennops river near the low-lying end and Witsinkhout roads in Centurion.

On Saturday afternoon, a body was discovered floating in the muddy waters in-between flooded shacks by community members in Mamelodi.

On Tuesday, another body was found at Roodeplaat Dam in the north of Pretoria.
