Tshwane floods – Fifth body found in Centurion
The woman was believed to have been a passenger in an Uber taxi.
The discovery of a fifth body in Centurion, near Irene, on Wednesday brought the recent flood-related body count to five.
Tshwane emergency services department spokesperson Charles Mabaso said that the body of a woman, believed to have been a passenger in an Uber taxi, was found at around 11:50 by search teams. She was one of three people search teams were still looking for, along with another passenger and the driver. The car they were travelling in was swept away at Olifantspruit in Midstream between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

“The teams are continuing their search for the driver and the other passenger towards the Centurion Lake,” he said. Thus far, three bodies had been retrieved in the Centurion area.
The first body, of a man, was retrieved from a bakkie on the afternoon of February 6, after it was swept away the night before.

The second body was retrieved on Tuesday from the Hennops River. Rescue teams retrieved two other bodies in other parts of Pretoria as well.
One was retrieved at the Soul City informal settlement in Mamelodi on Sunday, while the other was retrieved from the Roodeplaat Dam on Tuesday afternoon.
