Tshwane metro warns residents about job scam

“We would like to make it clear that EPWP application forms are not for sale - they are issued free of charge to applicants,” she said.

The Tshwane metro urged residents to be on the lookout for an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) job application form scam.

MMC for Social Development and Community Services, Peggy de Bruin, said the scam was possibly run by criminals who are fraudulently selling the EPWP application forms and employment contracts.

“We would like to make it clear that EPWP application forms are not for sale – they are issued free of charge to applicants,” she said.

De Bruin said once people had applied, the metro would use a lottery system that randomly selects participants for various short-term employment opportunities within the metro. “All of this is at no cost to the applicant.”

She said, however, eligibility to work on any of the metro’s EPWP programmes was only available to persons selected through the lottery system.

“Persons selected through this system will be subsequently contacted by metro officials and allowed to sign contracts and report for duty.”

De Bruin said the registration on the EPWP database remained open.

De Bruin said job seekers had to be between the ages of 18 and 60.

They should bring along a certified copy of their identity document and proof of residence, which must be attached to the registration form.

The registration forms are currently available at the EPWP division, office G03, Ou Raadsaal Building (Church Square, Pretoria CBD).

Registration is open on Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 16:00.

“Job seekers are cautioned not to fall victim to this scam and to contact the metro whenever they come across anyone selling such applications forms.”
