A girl from Mamelodi has been selected to take part in the American Dance Awards Nationals competition that will take place in Florida, USA.

Mpumelelo Matjebe (10) from Mamelodi West, section C3 qualified to represent South Africa last year in the national dance competition after she performed well in the Junior Acrobatic Grade 7.

She is expected to take part from July 4 until July 10.

Her mother Rhoda said her daughter is a talented and ambitious child who is passionate about gymnastics and acrobatics.

Mpumelelo started pursuing her dream at the early age of eight at a local studio called Magic Moon Studio.

She has been consistent and is always willing to improve with every competition she enters.

“Representing her country in a competition of such magnitude will help broaden her knowledge and experience as well as assist her in becoming a competitive dancer in her own capacity as she will be competing with dancers from around the globe,” said Rhoda.

So far, Mpumelelo has since won several medals in different competitions namely studio competitions, Dance International competition as well as the American Dance Awards competition.

“It will be an honour to be able to fulfil my dream at such an early age and it will motivate a lot of young children out there,” Mpumelelo said.

The competition is, however, not fully sponsored and Mpumelelo requires R52 000 to take part in the trip.

The funds include return flights from SA to USA, transportation, hotel accommodation, registration and participation fees and SA tracksuits.

There will also be a workshop for three days to enhance their skills which will be conducted by renowned international choreographers.

Anyone who wishes to assist Mpumelelo Matjebe, can contact her mother Rhoda Matjebe on 082 490 7758.
