Utility service outages hamper automotive operations in Rosslyn

“The city remains committed to creating a conducive business environment where the automotive industry can grow further."

The Tshwane metro was prioritising the maintenance of and refurbishment of critical infrastructure following a meeting with business executives from the automotive industry in Rosslyn, north of Pretoria, last week.

“The maintenance and refurbishment of our critical infrastructure are at the top of our list of priorities,” mayor Randall Williams said.

“We need to accelerate repair work to reduce water leaks and we are driving strategic focus towards substations that need upgrades to meet current demand.”

During the meeting between Williams and the business executives from BMW and Nissan, the executives identified power and water outages in the Rosslyn industrial area as some of the challenges they faced in the execution of their business operations.

“These two matters affect business operations and the impact of Eskom’s loadshedding, in particular, was raised as it has a significant effect on businesses and is damaging to our electricity infrastructure,” he said.

The meeting between him and the executives formed part of his weekly oversight programme wherein he sought to assess service delivery in the city’s seven regions.

“We felt that it was necessary to assess the status of service delivery in the Rosslyn industrial area. It is important that we keep communication lines open between the city and the business sector at large,” Williams said.

He further said that the Rosslyn industrial area was important to the city as it not only contributed to its economy but to job opportunities for residents as well.

“The city remains committed to creating a conducive business environment where the automotive industry can grow further,” Williams said.
