RTMC encourages use of new online service, after challenges
“No further extensions will be granted for expired licenses. Applicants are therefore encouraged to take advantage of online services available at online.natis.gov.za and renew to avoid the last-minute rush.”
Despite recent teething problems, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) still encouraged motorists to make use of its newly launched online booking system.
“Our technicians continue to work tirelessly to improve efficiency and effectiveness,” said RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane.
The service allows users to make online payments on the Natis online booking platform.
“Since the system went live last month, the RMTC was proud to announce more than 1 300 people had successfully transacted online.
“This has brought much-needed convenience to the motorists and the public.”
The RMTC launched the payment system to fight long queues and high costs for people wanting to renew their vehicle licences.
The introduction of online payments means people can now avoid queues altogether and have their vehicle licences delivered to their homes.
The system is part of the measures implemented in response to Covid-19 in which the government imposed strict regulations to encourage members of the public to avoid crowded areas.

The system includes the following:
– Online vehicle licence renewals
– Online driver’s licence card renewal
– Online driver licence test booking
– Learner licence test booking
– PrDP application
– Online crash report
Zwane reminded motorists that the fast-approaching grace period set for March 31, 2022, was the last and final extension.
The deadline is for motorists whose motor licences expired after the 2020 Covid lockdown.
This led to licensing centre operations being hindered, resulting in a massive backlog of expired vehicles and driving licences.
“No further extensions will be granted for expired licences. Applicants are therefore, encouraged to take advantage of online services available at online.natis.gov.za and renew to avoid the last-minute rush,” said Zwane.
The RMTC also noted with regret the current spate of disruptions at their licence testing centres in Gauteng.
“We wish to assure the public that we will do all in our power to protect and provide security for all members of the public visiting our centres.
“No violence and intimidation will be allowed and we plead with those who are orchestrating such actions to desist from such conduct.”
