Voortrekkermonument all out in blue

“There are 350 million people worldwide that need change because they live with a rare disease and it also impacts their families and carers.”

The Voortrekker Monument participated in the #RarenessAwareness and #ShareYourRare campaign and was all lit up in blue for one night as part of International Rare Disease Day which was celebrated Monday.

According to Gerhard Pretorius, communication manager this was done in collaboration with Rare Diseases SA where buildings across the world were illuminated.

Rare Diseases South Africa is an NPO 120-991 and called citizens to be part of their #RarenessAwareness and #ShareYourRare campaigns by joining the global chain of lights.

Pretorius said the campaign was aimed at shedding light on rare diseases and to increase awareness and change.

“There are 350 million people worldwide that need change because they live with a rare disease and it also impacts their families and carers.

“More than 500 buildings were lit up last year all over the world in the Rare Disease Day colours during the worldwide chain of light campaign. And this year the monument shared proudly in this awareness campaign.”

Pretorius thanked Afrison LED for their assistance in putting up the lights.
