Fetus found in a stream in Rietfontein in the Moot
The vagrant noticed something in the creek earlier in the day but at first, thought it was a doll.
A fetus, presumably between four and five months old, was found in a stream in 16th Avenue and Beyer Street in Rietfontein in the Moot on Monday.
Moot CPF chairperson Elsabe Weyers said she received a call from a community member at about 17:15 where a vagrant in the area notified the member of the fetus.

The vagrant noticed something in the stream earlier that day but at first, thought that it was a doll.
“He went back later to fetch water and saw the fetus with an umbilical cord and placenta in rags clinging to a branch.”
Weyers suspects the fetus was dumped into the water between 15th and 16th avenues.
“No physical scratch marks were noticed on the fetus’ body. It must have been in the water since the early morning hours as no decomposition took place,” she said

Several emergency services were called to the scene.
According to Weyers, the station commander of Olievenhoutbosch, who resides in the Moot area, Colonel Gert Corbett took over the scene.
“A post-mortem is being conducted.”
