Police launch manhunt for rape suspects
A 16-year-old girl was on her way home from school when she was approached by three men who raped her.
Mamelodi police have released an identikit of one of three men who gang-raped a 16-year-old girl as she was walking home from school last year.
They appealed to the community to help in the search for the unknown suspects.
“The girl was walking home from school last year September 7, at about 15:00 when she was approached by three males,” said Mamelodi East police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane.
“The suspects dragged her to the nearest bush and raped her.”
The attack happened in the far east of Mamelodi extension 18.
“Immediately after the incident, the suspects fled the scene on foot,” said Mashiloane.
The incident was reported to the police and a rape case was opened for further investigation.
The victim could identify only one suspect.
The suspect in the compiled identikits is light in complexion and of slender build.
He is about 1.7m tall and has a mohawk haircut.
Mashiloane said the suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the attack.
The suspects are believed to be between 17 to 20 years old.
Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Mpeo of the Mamelodi family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit on 082 356 2518 or 08600 10111.
