Tshwaranang project helps underprivileged girls

“It’s important to take care of school children because it makes their lives easier.”

Tshwaranang the Journey is an NGO that is aimed at helping young, underprivileged girls with basic life needs.

Co-founder of the NGO Refiloe Macheke, said the organisation is based in Atteridgeville and Lotus Gardens and has since helped numerous young girls.

“We started this project because we wanted to help underprivileged girls with school materials, clothing and sanitary products.

“We also saw the need to give young girls a platform to talk about their family problems and life issues,” she said.

Macheke said it’s important to take care of school children because it makes their lives easier.

“Some kids come from underprivileged families and some families don’t want to buy clothes for their children, so we help them with that.

“We also provide girls with hairpieces so they can also look good like other children,” Macheke said.

She said in the next few years, she wanted to have a building in which the organisation will operate.

Macheke said she wants to continue helping underprivileged young people in the coming years and plans to start helping more boys too.

“If anyone wants to make a donation of any form to the organisation, please contact me on 076 393 0925.”
