CIT truck bombed outside TUT campus
Money could be seen in the air soon after the explosion and the suspects were also seen picking up the money and putting it in bags.
A Cash-in-transit (CIT) truck was robbed of an unknown amount of money in Soshanguve on Thursday, April 14.
National police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the robbery happened along Aubrey Matlakala Road, right outside Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Soshanguve south campus.
He said the CIT truck had gone to service at TUT but could not complete service due to load-shedding.
“While the CIT driver and his two colleagues were on their way to another service point, they were raided by an unknown number of suspects,” he said.
Netshiunda said the suspects overpowered the cash delivery personnel and robbed one of them of his firearm.
He said the robbers used explosives to blast open the safe and got away with an unknown amount of money.
“The suspects fled the scene in two getaway cars, a white Nissan Almera and a Nissan Sentra.
“The third getaway car, a Mercedes Benz, caught fire at the scene of the crime,” Netshiunda said.
In a video that was making rounds on social media, the suspects could be seen setting up explosives and bombing the CIT tuck.
Money could be seen in the air soon after the explosion and the suspects were also seen picking up the money and putting it in bags.
In the last three months, Rekord has reported on at least five CIT robberies across Tshwane.
Police urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through a tip-off via the MySAPS App which can be downloaded on any smartphone.
