Metro to focus on illegal land occupants in Sinoville

“Residents must obtain reference numbers for complaints so that it can be assigned to a task team and the process can run its cause.”

Sinoville residents complained about illegal land occupants at the corner of Mirca Drive and Hans Coverdale Street.

Ward 50 councillor Lenise Breytenbach said the metro was currently focusing on the area, as well as that of Marija Street and Sefako Makgatho Drive.

“The issue is being addressed by Tshwane metro in co-operation with TMPD and local police.

“They [vagrants] are often relocated to a place of safety, but after two or three days they come back.”

She said not only is it an eyesore in the main street, but that the vagrants also make open fires.

“There is no sanitation or running water, they leave their rubbish and liquor bottles everywhere and the fence was damaged.”

Breytenbach said the community must assist by not only complaining about it on WhatsApp groups but to report it to the metro.

“Residents must obtain reference numbers for complaints so that it can be assigned to a task team and the process can run its course.”

Breytenbach said she was also aware of complaints about general service delivery such as power outages due to the old network system and cable theft.

“Trees touching power lines also lead to outages and residents must keep in mind it is their responsibility to cut trees on their property.

“Streetlights are still a problem due to the rainstorms we had, and that often gives rise to criminal activities because there is no visibility.”

She said the metro still has a backlog when it comes to potholes that need fixing.

Residents also complain about speeding motorists on Braam Pretorius Street and Sefako Makgatho Drive, especially around the schools.

“Good news is that all the applications for traffic circles and speed humps have been submitted to the road engineering committee for impact studies and either approval or refusal. The community can however appeal its decision.”

Breytenbach said residents can send their queries to customercare@tshwane.gov.za and report power issues at 012 358 9999 or 080 111 1556.

Power outages can be reported at 012 339 9111 or SMS the word “power” and the account number to 082 612 0333.

For streetlight complaints, call 080 111 1556 of 012 358 2540/1 or mail to streetlights@tshwane.gov.za or faultystreetlights@tshwane.gov.za.
