Sinoville CPF warns of spike in hijackings
There has been a recent spike in attempted hijackings in Sinoville and surrounding areas.
There has been a recent spike in attempted hijackings in Sinoville and surrounding areas, according to the local CPF.
Sinoville CPF public relations officer Lizette du Plooy posted on Facebook that residents should be vigilant.
“The CPF holds its finger on the pulse of all crime-related issues, not only in our area but in neighbouring areas and Gauteng at large,” she said.
“These are life-threatening situations and we want to equip our members and all residents with tips on how to prevent such situations.”
Sinoville police station spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk confirmed there had been four hijacking cases reported ever since the beginning of the year.
Van Dyk said the cases reported at the station all happened outside of Sinoville.
“These cases happen outside of our area, but were reported at our station,” he said.
“Most of the time we have to transfer the cases to the relevant police station in the area in which the hijacking happened.”
The CPF urged motorists to:
– Be vigilant when you are driving towards your house. If you think you are being followed, keep driving until you lose them or drive to your nearest police station.
– Observe and monitor the vehicle behind you; if you suspect they are following you, do not stop or turn into your driveway.
– Install Life 360 or activate Google location and share it with your family.
– Avoid getting blocked in; wait in the street for your gate to open instead of waiting in the driveway.
– Before driving in, check for unknown pedestrians and suspicious-looking cars.
– Trust your instincts; avoid people or situations that make you uncomfortable.
– Limit your trips at night; always ensure that you drive with your doors locked and windows shut.
– Know all your emergency numbers by heart; install apps on your phone for family and friends to track your location if you should not reach your destination on time.
Du Plooy said motorists and residents should follow these safety tips to avoid being victims of hijacking.
