CPF helps woman deliver baby by the side of the road

Members of the community contacted the CPF when they saw a woman had collapsed by the side of the road.

Rooihuiskraal CPF members helped a woman deliver a baby boy by the side of the road in Centurion on Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the CPF received a panicked call from a community member who saw a woman had collapsed by the side of the road.

Within mere minutes, CPF members responded to the scene, according to CPF member Sonet Klopper.

Klopper was one of the first to arrive on the scene where she saw that the woman, whose identity is not known, was in labour and suffering contractions.

Klopper could immediately see that the baby had to be delivered then and there.

Fortunately, Klopper, who has years of experience delivering babies, knew exactly what to do.

“I was shocked when I saw her, but did all the necessary checks,” said Klopper.

“I timed her contractions and knew that this baby had to come out here and now – there was no other choice.

“She did very well and kept calm, and worked nicely with me and she was able to deliver a beautiful and healthy baby boy.”

Private security company Monitor Net and community paramedic service CERT-SA were also called to the scene.

Monitor Net’s JP le Roux said their priority was to block the road to provide the woman with some privacy and let the CPF do their job.

“We saw that the situation was serious and did the best we can,” he said.

“It’s not a situation we see every day, but we were happy to help in any way we could.”

Security companies worked with the CPF to give the woman privacy by blocking off the road.

Cert-SA’s Ruan Heyns said he was proud of how his team performed and that they could help the woman in her hour of need.

According to CPF member Mynhardt le Roux, the woman, who works as a domestic worker in the area, was on her way home from work when the incident took place.

Mynhardt added that the woman’s water had already broken the morning before she went to work.

“It’s a miracle that this baby survived when you take all the circumstances into account.

“They were both in serious need and the CPF did an amazing job ensuring they both survived the birth,” he said.

An ambulance was called to render further aid to the mother and her baby boy who were then transported to the nearest hospital.
