Tshwane PA feeds 600 people in Mamelodi and Eersterust
“We are planning to do this every second or third weekend of each month.”

A group of volunteers led by a local political party hosted a soup drive on Saturday, May 21, feeding 300 people in Mamelodi and 300 more in Eersterust.
The project involved volunteers, members of the Tshwane region Patriotic Alliance (PA) and members of the communities, according to PA councillor Debyre Williams-Moses.
Williams-Moses said it was important to help residents with food because the Covid-19 pandemic was still affecting several communities as jobs were lost and residents are still struggling to make ends meet.
“I received a call from ward 15 Mamelodi councillor Martin Ndlovu about a great need for food in his community.
“We joined forces and implemented the soup drive in both Mamelodi and Eersterust and we fed more people than expected,” she said.
Williams-Moses said they informed the residents about the soup drive through digital flyers that were distributed over social media and also through word of mouth.
“We are planning to do this every second or third weekend of each month.
“This means we will have to identify the communities that need our services and we will then move around Tshwane to feed our people,” said Williams-Moses.

She said the PA will continue to feed the people as long as there is a great need for food in the community and she urged ground leaders to also take up the initiative.
After seeing the success of the soup drive, Williams-Moses said they wished to collaborate with private companies for sponsorships and funding.

“We are looking to get sponsorship to effectively drive this project,” she said.
“The positive response motivated us to continue with this soup drive because this is a need in our communities.”
