Cops bust over 490 in Tshwane over weekend

"We also stood firm against lawlessness in Cullinan and Kameeldrift during a high-density operation.”

More than 490 suspects were arrested during multi-disciplinary police operations over the weekend in Tshwane.

“On Saturday, we also stood firm against lawlessness in Cullinan and Kameeldrift during a high-density operation,” said Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

Detectives held simultaneous tracing of wanted suspects throughout Tshwane and arrested 268 suspects. Among those arrested during the tracing of wanted suspects, 52 suspects were detained for gender-based violence-related cases.

He said additional success for the entire district is as follows: undocumented persons (39), unlicensed liquor outlets closed down (10), drug-related crimes (46), driving under the influence of alcohol (21), and consuming alcohol in public areas (75).

“Other arrests included for crimes such as possession of drugs, common robbery, malicious property damage, illegal possession of a firearm, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, and contravention of the Road Traffic Act.”

Further arrests also include possession of suspected stolen goods, murder, reckless driving, attempted business robbery, contravention of protection order, common assault, theft, common robbery, dealing in liquor without a license, shoplifting, carjacking, and attempted murder.

Various law enforcement agencies were involved in the operations, including the Department of Correctional Services, the Department of Home Affairs, the Gauteng traffic department, Tshwane metro police and CPFs.

Akasia police, in partnership with the local CPF, hosted a community imbizo on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa said the meeting focused on the community’s complaints and concerns.

It was attended by the station’s management, CPF executive, and members from Correctional Services and Community Safety.

She said the community responded very well and the turn-around was quite good as many people participated in the imbizo.

Mabasa said people always have questions they wish to ask members of the police as they have concerns about the community they live in.

“We usually inform members of the public of various issues in their community, explain legislation or processes to them, and provide the relevant assistance. That way we ensure co-operation between police and the community.”

She said station commander Colonel Magugu Ginindza addressed the community and assured them that their concerns will be forwarded to the relevant stakeholders where relevant.

“A follow-up meeting is yet to be conveyed at the earliest convenience to revisit the concerns raised and give feedback.”
