Police rewarded for catching criminals

Two men suspected of being involved in the robbery of a SPAR Tops in Akasia two weeks ago were recently arrested.
Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa said police received information last week about the “two masterminds behind the robbery”.
“The information led our tracing team to the addresses of the two suspects. Upon arrival at the first suspect’s residence, the suspect pointed them yet to another location, where the firearms used in the robbery, were kept.
“When police then arrived at the second suspect’s residence, they confiscated two firearms during a preliminary investigation. One of the firearms could be linked to the robbery at the SPAR Tops in The Orchards.”
Mabasa said 70 pieces of ammunition were also confiscated.
“The suspects, aged between 20 and 28, are expected to appear in the Pretoria North magistrate’s court on Tuesday.”
In a separate incident on Tuesday, senior management rewarded police officers from stations in the Tshwane precinct for their role in bringing hardened criminals to account.
Sinoville police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the officers worked long hours under difficult circumstances to secure the arrests.
“Their dedication was proven by reacting to serious crimes in their presence despite being off-duty at the time.
“Task team officers, who were tasked to secure the arrests of crime syndicates in their policing precincts, spent days away from their family and loved ones to follow up on leads and information to bring criminals to book.”
He said excellent detective work by detectives to provide courts with undisputed facts to secure sentences takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
“All the members were presented with certificates of excellence as well as monetary rewards.”
