TMPD nab a man accused of terrorising Ga-Rankuwa community

Tshwane metro police arrested a man alleged to have been robbing and terrorising people who were walking to the Ga-Rankuwa mall on Monday.

Two TMPD officers were performing their duties when they heard a young man screaming at Masakeng Street in Ga-Rankuwa.

They rushed to the scene and found a young man bleeding from the head and pointing to two men with a bicycle, said TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Mahamba said the victim told the officers the men had just robbed him of his money, cellphone and bicycle and hit him on the head with a firearm.

“The officers chased the suspects who left the bicycle before fleeing to the bushes. The two officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects while the other one got away.

“As they were busy arresting the suspect, community members approached and some identified the suspect as one of the notorious robbers who was terrorising and robbing community members as they walked to the mall.

“One person alleged that he was robbed at gunpoint by the same suspect. They took his money, cellphone and clothes and assaulted him.”

Mahamba said the officers managed to recover all the items taken from the complainant and the suspect was arrested for armed robbery.

He said the man will appear in court soon.

“The case will be investigated further to apprehend the other suspect.”
