Police urge residents to have faith in them after man brutally killed in North
“Mob violence has left many people with not only blood in their hands but also a criminal record.”
Police in the north of Pretoria warned Soshanguve residents not to take the law into their own hands after a man was brutally killed in what is believed to be a mob justice attack.
This was after police found a deceased man with multiple injuries in the street in Block T last Monday.
The community believed the man was a criminal then brutally beat him to death, according to Rietgat police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.
Maluleka said a case of murder had been opened at the Rietgat police station.
“Those who have committed the crime will face the music.”
He said it had come to the attention of the police that “the community tends to resort to violence when they find or catch a suspect in the commission of a crime”.
He said the recent incident was one of many in the area.
“We would like to call on the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”
He urged the community to have faith in the police and stop taking law into their own hands.
“Mob violence has left many people with not only blood on their hands, but also with criminal records.”
He urged all law-abiding citizens to think twice before taking part in such attacks.
He urged anyone to report such attacks in their neighbourhood to the police at 071 675 6250, the station commander at 082 455 8236 or the Rietgat SAPS at 012 432 7806.
