Power outage in Faerie Glen…again

“When they finished repairs this morning at 03:30 and put the power on, the Wapadrand substation tripped. This pointed out another fault on line,” he said.

Faerie Glen residents were without electricity yet again after a power outage around 11:00 on Monday, June 6.

Speaking to Rekord, ward 44 councillor Christo van den Heever confirmed that construction at Glen Village caused the outage.

“They hacked the cable yesterday [Monday] and that is what caused the outage,” he said.

According to Van der Heever, the problem was identified close to Koedoeberg substation.

“When they finished repairs this morning at 03:30 and put the power on, the Wapadrand substation tripped. This pointed out another fault on line,” he said.

Faerie Glen resident Lynette Bierman said she is worried about families with young children because, they need electricity the most.

Frustrated Faerie Glen resident Tammy Visser said the power outage is negatively affecting her daily life.

“I have two kids. One is seven months old and she vomits when she consumes cold or room temperature milk. So, I have to warm her milk up,” she said.

At the time of publishing Van der Heever said repairs are being done, however the estimated completion time could not be confirmed.

The architect on the Glen Village construction site declined to comment on how the power outage was caused.
