Metro warns residents against fraudsters outside licensing centres

“All testing centres in the metro do not take cash payments anymore, only card payments are accepted.”

The Tshwane metro urged residents to be careful when visiting driving licence testing centres (DLTCs) as people continue to fall victim to fraudsters outside the DLTC buildings.

Scammers and fraudsters pose as officials from the DLTC to defraud people of their money, according to roads and transport MMC Dikeledi Selowa.

Selowa said that none of the testing centres in the metro accept cash anymore, only card payments.

“Do not allow yourself to be helped by anyone outside of the DLTC building pretending to be an official of the municipality.

“We are aware of the criminality at our centres by so-called ‘runners’. Runners pretend to be DLTC employees who offer help to people but then run away with their money,” she said.

Selowa said assistance and services were only offered inside the facility and residents are warned that anything that happens outside was unlawful.

She added that DLTCs across the metro not only refuse to take cash but don’t give cash to anyone either.

These are the prices for services offered by the metro and DLTCs:

– R228 driver’s licence renewal.

– R60 for application for learner’s licence.

– R228 for application of lightweight vehicle driving test.

– R240 for application of heavyweight vehicle driving test.

– R290 for application off motorcycle driving test.

– R92 for application for duplication of learner’s licence.

Selowa urged anyone who wishes to report issues of criminality at testing centres to contact the metro’s anti-corruption hotline on 080 874 9263.

Residents can also report such matters to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) anti-corruption hotline on 0861 400 800.
