Reward offered for hijacked puppy
"I was not going to let him drive away with my son, so I hung onto the door for dear life."
Residents from Nina Park in the north of Pretoria banded together to offer a reward for a puppy that was in a woman’s car when it was hijacked.
The dog went missing when Katinka Loock and her 12-year old son were hijacked on the evening of May 19 around 18:40 while on their way home from rugby practice at school.
“Our then three-week-old Daxie puppy, Nutella, was also in the vehicle,” said Loock.
“As I was in Veronica Street, busy turning right into Klippan to move left to Dr Swanepoel, I stood stationary at the robot when I was rear-ended by another vehicle. There were three men inside the vehicle, and since we have just collided, I got out of my car.
“The driver apologised, but when I turned around I could not turn back because one of them was right behind me with a firearm.”
According to Loock, he got into the car while her son was also still in the vehicle.
“I was not going to let him drive away with my son, so I hung onto the door for dear life. My son was also involved in an altercation with the robber and begged to be left with me.
“The robber got out of the car so that my son can get out, and got back in and drove off in a split second. There was no time to even think about what was busy happening.”
Loock said the robber not only took off with her son’s school bag and school clothes but also with their dog.
“Nutella is about seven weeks old by now, she is a female and a chocolate and tan colour.
Warrant officer Johann van Dyk, spokesperson for Sinoville police, confirmed the incident.
“We are aware that the lady and her son managed to escape from the robbers; however, we were not aware that there was a puppy in the vehicle as well.”
