Biker dies in collision with taxi in Pretoria Gardens

The taxi was making a U-turn when the motorbike collided into it.

A biker was killed in Pretoria Gardens on Tuesday afternoon following a collision with a taxi.

Best Care emergency services spokesperson Xander Loubser said the collision happened on the corner of Van der Hoff Road and Lotty Street when the taxi attempted to make a U-turn.

CCTV video footage of the collision shows the motorcyclist flying off his bike on impact.

Loubser told Rekord paramedics declared the motorcyclist dead on the scene.

He said the occupants of the taxi were not injured.

Loubser said he had responded to four accident scenes involving motorbikes in the past week but this was the only one that resulted in the fatality.

“The other incidents left patients with critical injuries still,” he said.

He cautioned motorists to be vigilant while also calling motorcyclists to ensure they were visible on the road.

“To all motorists and motorcyclists, please stick to the road rules and don’t drive over the speed limit,” he said.
