Youth empowerment workshop held in Hammanskraal
“Two young men who opened a carwash business near the library recently exchanged contact details with youth agency representatives who hoped to help them access funding.”
The Tshwane metro and youth agency hosted a youth empowerment workshop in Dilopye, Hammanskraal on Tuesday.
Organiser and local church pastor Tona Morake said the metro, National Youth Development Agency and environment department discussed the services they offered youth and the community such as how to write a CV, business plan and funding proposal.
Morake said there was a need to protect the youth in the midst of rising unemployment, drug abuse, mental illness, crime and murders by giving them something to utilise their idle time with as well as hope of a better future.

He said the youth agency shared employment website SAMobi.com with the attendants to help them secure jobs.
“The department shared tips for keeping the environment clean, but we want them to help us establish parks in our community,” he said.
Morake said such workshops made a positive impact on the youth because it showed that people cared.
“Two young men who opened a carwash business near the library recently exchanged contact details with youth agency representatives who hoped to help them access funding,” he said.
“If they do well, that would teach other youth that they too can be innovative and start their own businesses instead of waiting for jobs.”

He said future workshops would focus on preparation for job interviews and application for NSFAS study bursaries.
Anyone who wants to be part of the workshops can contact Tona Morake on 081 814 8251.
