Four suspects arrested in Hammanskraal in possession of hijacked vehicle and stolen property
“The robbers began to run as taxi association members chased them.”
Hammanskraal SAPS and Tshwane flying squad members apprehended four suspects in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and stolen property on Thursday.
According to police spokesperson Warren Mulane, they followed up on information that led to the arrests of three men aged 24, 36 and 40 for possession of a hijacked vehicle in Kanana.
“The vehicle was hijacked at Heidelberg.
“The suspects lost control of the vehicle and one of the suspects fled the scene.”
Mulane said in another incident, a suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property.
“Workers at the Pep Stores in Renbro Complex were robbed at gunpoint a few minutes after the shop opened by four unknown men who demanded all the cellphones.
“The workers filled up four bags, given by the suspects, with the cellphones. Then two suspects took the bags to their vehicle.”
Mulane said they came back for the other two bags.
“On their way out of the shop, community members shouted for help.
“The robbers began to run as taxi association members chased them,” she said.
Mulane said the suspects dropped the two bags full of cellphones and fled the scene.
“The bags were picked up by taxi association members and taken back to the shop.
“One of the phones had a tracker.
“Pretoria Flying Squad and Hammanskraal Crime Prevention members followed the lead and proceeded to a house in Danhouse,” she said.
Mulane said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property of the two bags of cellphones.
“The vehicle that the suspects used to flee the scene was found at the same house.”
Hammanskraal station commander Colonel Moses Mokwana thanked the taxi association members and appreciated the good work they have done.
The suspects were detained and will appear in the Moretele magistrate’s court in due course.
