Capital Park’s best well-maintained sidewalk winners for July

"I am absolutely in love with the community of Capital Park. The neighbours have each other's back and that is the main reason I like being part of Capital Park."

The Capital Park best-kept sidewalk champions for the month of July have been announced.

Rendani Kone and the Smit family were named best-kept sidewalk champions in the local sidewalk competition.

Kone, who has been staying in Van Heerden Street for just less than two years, said she was over the moon when she was notified of the win.

“It came as a huge surprise.

“I am absolutely in love with the community of Capital Park. The neighbours have each other’s back and that is the main reason I like being part of Capital Park,” she said.

“A neat sidewalk should be an example to others, because it is the first thing of a home that you see when you drive past. Keeping your sidewalk well-maintained improves the self-image of residents and a neighbourhood as a whole, and living in a clean environment makes life healthier, less stressful and more pleasant.”

She added that gardening can do wonders to one’s health.

“It reduces stress and depression and watching greenery is good for our eyesight,” she said.

The neatest sidewalk of the month competition was started by Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association (Cappra).

Real One real estate agency’s Donne-Li Johnson joined in as co-organiser of the competition.

The Smit family have been staying in 1st Avenue for over a year.

“Donne-Li pulled up next to our house to inform us that we have been selected for this month’s competition. This award means so much to us as a family and it sends a message to our children that hard work pays off at the end,” Chantelle Smit said.

She added that fellow residents should be proud of their home and look after their garden.

“It shows that you care about your environment. A small change in keeping the area clean can encourage those around us to also do the same.

“Gardening for us is like therapy.

“We love seeing the garden with all its green trees, neatly mowed lawn, plants and flowers that invite the birds and the bees to come and feel welcome in our garden,” Smit said.

She added that they are blessed to be able to call Capital Park their home.

“The house is a gift from God and we want to look after it to show our Father that we are grateful to be blessed with our own little nest where we as a family share our love and memories.”
