DA lodges complaint against EFF following land grabs
The complaint calls for investigation into unlawful incitement of land invasions.
The DA lodged a complaint at the office of the Public Protector against the EFF after the party’s land grabs in Olievenhoutbosch on Friday.
DA Gauteng shadow community safety MEC Crezane Bosch lodged the complaint.
Bosch was accompanied by local DA councillors and activists who picketed outside the office.
“Over the past weekend, tracts of public and private land in Olievenhoutbosch and neighbouring areas were unlawfully occupied, a set of events that coincided with a tweet from the official account of the EFF in which it invited people to ‘get land for free’.
“The unlawful land grabs pursued by the EFF are an absolute infringement of the landowners’ constitutional rights.
“For far too long, the EFF has been using innocent and vulnerable people to achieve their political scores.
“The DA will lodge a complaint with the Public Protector to urgently investigate the EFF for the unlawful incitement of land invasions in Olievenhoutbosch,” the party said in a statement.
In their response, the EFF rejected the DA’s complaint.
EFF Regional Chairperson Obakeng Ramabodu said their actions are “absurd and ignorant”.
“The EFF in Tshwane reject with contempt the absurd call by the DA for an investigation against the EFF public representative’s alleged involvement in a land occupation incident transpired in Olievenhoutbosch over the weekend,” he said.
“Tshwane EFF observes with regret that the Shadow MEC for Community Safety is either deeply embroiled in darkness to comprehend the events of Olievenhoutbosch land occupation.
“Or [she] is categorically misinformed about the involvement of the EFF public representative in this regard.
“The availability of the public representative as a leader of the people in facilitating dialogue among community members cannot be misconstrued for ownership of the protest; therefore, this call for an investigation by the DA is nonsensical. It should be entirely dismissed,” concluded Ramabodu.
