Two get long jail terms for teen murder during tavern robbery in Atteridgeville
“They ordered guests to hand over their belongings at gunpoint and during the robbery, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead.”
The Pretoria magistrate’s court has sentenced two men from Atteridgeville to long-term imprisonment for murder, robbery and other crimes.
NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Frank Mabuinda (20) was recently sentenced to life plus 28 years in jail and Phumlani Meje (23) to 33 years plus another 10 for the murder and robbery respectively.
In April 2017, the court found that they two left a tavern in Phatlotsane, Atteridgeville, to go stir up trouble at a social gathering nearby.
“They ordered people there to hand over their belongings at gunpoint.”

Mahanjana said during the traumatic robbery, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead.
“They fired shots and fled but were later the same day, a few hours after the incident, arrested.”
She said the two had been in custody since because the NPA had successfully opposed bail.
Mahanjana said the court further declared the two unfit to possess a firearm.
On August 29, magistrate Magdaline Erasmus found the men guilty of murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances each.
Meje was further found guilty of possession of an unlawful firearm and unlawful ammunition.
