154 tenants view their new homes in Marabastad
Tau states that overall, 691 beneficiaries have been approved for placement in the housing project.
The Tshwane metro hosted a viewing for 154 beneficiaries of the new Marabastad Townlands housing project on October 5, as phase one nears completion.
MMC for human settlements, Abel Tau along with the CEO of Housing Company Tshwane (HCT) Obakeng Nyundu, led the viewing in Marabastad, central Pretoria.
Tau states that overall, 691 beneficiaries have been approved for placement in the housing project.
“While on-site viewing the units, I had a chance to engage with some of the approved beneficiaries, many of whom are young professionals who have been looking for opportunities to stay closer to their workplaces for a while,” said Tau.
The project is intended to give the residents easy access to the CBD and all the economic amenities and opportunities available.
“The multimillion-rand social housing project is managed by HCT, a housing entity of the city, and consists of 1 200 mixed units,” continued Tau.
Residents that do not qualify for home loans – earning between R1 500-R15 000 a month – or a subsidised government housing, can have access to affordable housing through this project.
The MMC previously announced that 6 000 people had applied for units in the housing project since September last year but only 800 were shortlisted and further vetting reduced this number to the current 691.
“The City of Tshwane is looking forward to opening its doors to all approved beneficiaries. This is only the first phase and HCT will announce when the application process for Phase 2 gets underway,” concluded Tau.
