High temperatures to persist in Pretoria throughout the weekend, no rain forecast
Residents are encouraged to stay indoors and remain hydrated.
The extremely high temperatures that Pretoria residents have been experiencing for the past two weeks are expected to persist throughout the weekend.
According to the South African Weather Service, Saturday temperatures will reach a high of 32*C and a low of 16*C with cloudy conditions.
Sunday’s max will reach 34*C and a low of 18*C with clear skies.
No rain is forecast for the weekend.
The South African Weather Service has provided the following safety precautions to follow during the day:
– Stay indoors in a well-ventilated or air-conditioned room.
– If working outside, wear protective clothing like headgear and take breaks at regular intervals.

– Avoid playing strenuous sports or engaging in excessive manual labour, as you can risk heat exhaustion or sunstroke.
– Dress in cool, lightweight clothes which are not constricting.
– Wearing hats (preferably with a wide brim) as well as the generous application of sunblock should be encouraged if you are going to be outdoors for any length of time.
– Remain adequately hydrated by drinking plenty of liquids (not alcohol).
– Outside playtime for children should ideally be restricted or prohibited between 10:00 and 16:00.
– The elderly and infants are particularly vulnerable to dehydration and/or heatstroke and should be afforded extra care and attention during prolonged spells of hot weather.
