Magubane scoops award for “The Black Ants” book
The Centurion-based author said winning the award justifies all the effort put into the project.
Author Thabani Magubane won the best upcoming author award at the Book Behind Awards on Saturday, October 15.
The winning book The Black Ants is about the injustices and micro-aggressions that black people have to live with in modern South Africa.

It’s dedicated to former South African rugby player Lindani Myeni, who shot dead by the police in Hawaii, USA in April 2021.
The Centurion-based author said he felt honoured for the award following the amount of work that went into it.
“It is an indication to me that I’m headed in the right direction and indeed dreams do come true and hard work is rewarded,” he said.
He said winning justifies all the effort put into the project.
“It reciprocates the many hours of hard work and sacrifices. It makes me truly happy,” he said.
Magubane added that he was grateful and appreciated everyone who voted for him to walk out the winner.
He said the award has motivated him to work harder for more awards.
“I intend to work on areas where I can improve. I think there will be a reason to get awarded if I get it right,” he said.
