Unplaced learners to attend ‘satellite’ school on Monday
A new satellite school, registered as North Park secondary school, will host the unplaced learners.
The 176 Tshwane west district Grade 8 learners, who are waiting to be placed in schools, will finally begin attending classes soon at a new “satellite school” in Pretoria North.
A new satellite school, registered as North Park secondary school, will host the unplaced learners.
They will start attending classes on February 6.
Recently, the Gauteng education department confirmed that all learners who applied during the 2023 online admissions application period have been placed.
Earlier, the department announced that officials were working on placing 474 Grade 8 learners who were not placed in schools.
“We have been hard at work to increase capacity in high-pressure areas through various means to ensure that all learners are placed accordingly,” said Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane.
Despite challenges facing the department, it has successfully facilitated the placement of over 291 574 grades 1 and 8 learners to date.
“To alleviate capacity pressure, the department is building satellite schools in high-pressure areas. These are schools which are an extension of certain high-pressure schools, but are built on a different site or geographical area not far from the main school.”
Two satellite schools for the Tshwane west district are currently under construction, namely Theresapark primary school No. 2 and Theresapark secondary school.
